Pool pump problems

Leak of water from pool pump

This time, the customer called us for a leakage from her pool pump.

The gardener sent her this video:

https://youtu.be/loWB9y8pGsw

When we saw the video, the understand immediately the problem: mechanical seal damaged, so we passed the quotation to solve the problem.

The customer accepted the quotation, so we pass to step2, uninstall and bring the pump to our workshop.

We also noticed another detail from the video: a 90° elbow in the inlet of the pool pump. We know this is cause of many cavitation problems, so we suggest the customer to modify the installation.

If I could have a euro, for any pool pump installed with a 90° elbow in the suction I saw in the last years, I would be billionaire.

Fixing in our workshop

In Head Pumps, when we fix a pump, always make a complete check up of your water pump.

In this case, for example, during the replacement of a damaged mechanical seal, we also made the electrical test of the motor and the motor was shorted to ground, as you see in this video:

Insulation value of the motor was 0.10 MΩ. Taking a look, we saw water in the electrical part of the pump and also in the thermal protector.

We dry the parts and repeat the test:

This time the value is correct: more than 200 MΩ, so we can end the reaparation and pass to the final test.

Final water test

In Head Pumps, we always end every reparation with a final water test. This test is very important, because maybe the mechanical seal is not the only problem of the pump we just fixed…

In this test, we check the head of the pump, and the Amperes of its intensity.

Now the reparation is really ended and it’s possible to reinstall the pool pump.
