3 PHASE BOOSTER PUMP AND INVERTER

3 phase booster pump and inverter

https://www.bombasideal.com/

They called us for a 3 phase water booster pump that didn’t work.

The booster pump was connected to an inverter that stopped working.

Someone tried to connect the pump to a new device, but the new installation didn’t work either.

The customer decided to buy a new inverter but also decided to call an expert to install it.

I asked to the customer some details about the old device that didn’t work, the new inverter and I went to the place.

This is what I found in the place:

a broken inverter on the wall,

a 3 phase pump hp2 with the cable ends connected delta 230V in the terminal block.

They connected somehow the pump to the domestic 230V supply through a digital pressure switch… NOT GOOD.

I asked to the customer if they eventually managed to start the pump with the pressure switch and he answered: “Yes, we managed to start the pump, but the motor ran slowly” – NOT GOOD – “so we decided to stop it, to buy a new inverter and to call an expert to install it.”

I explained to the customer that it’s not possible to connect a 3 phase pump to the 230V domestic supply, even if in the motor data label you read 230/400V.

Actually that is a very common and frequent problem: if I could get 1EUR for each time that a customer asked me to “transform” a 3phase electrical motor in single-phase, I would be billionaire right now ehehe.

3 phase 230V electrical motor

A THREE-PHASE ELECTRICAL MOTOR NEEDS THREE-PHASE SUPPLY OR AN INVERTER that allows us to connect the 3phase pump to the 230V supply.

The inverter is a device that allows us to avoid a lot problems with our water pump and to save money and energy, like we explain in this old post:

https://headpumps.com/la-electricidad-en-los-hogares-espanoles-es-la-quinta-mas-cara-de-europa/

So we made 4 different electrical tests on the vertical multistage pump to verify that the motor was not damaged and the electrical motor passed all the tests.

Inverters

We installed the new inverter:

It’s a iSMARTVAR 10.5 by BCN bombas. It’s not the first time I install it.

We refill with air the expansion tank and eventually we started the pump:

We made some pressure tests checking the water pressure in the showers of the house, we leave the pump running with its new inverter and another satisfied customer.

Eventually he got what we he needed: a good pressure to take a good shower and a pump expert he can call in case of problems.
