Flooded pool pumps. Sometimes could be better not repair.

To fix or not to fix?

In this article, we’ll tell you about flooded pool pumps. Here a Power Flo II that we preferred NOT to repair.

In Head Pumps we know how to fix ANY kind of problem your pool pump may have, but it also happens that could be better not to repair.

It happens a lot to receive in our workshop flooded pool pumps.

The underground pool pump house in your garden, can easily get flooded because of a heavy rain or a broken pipe.

In this case (even if you opened the pump and you left it under the sun, to dry the water) restarting the pump it happens:

– that the pump switch start tripping (or the main switch in the house)

– that the pump restart running, but makes a lot of noise

This happens because water, inside the pump, produced oxidation of the mechanical parts or worse shorted to ground the electrical part.

Generally we can do a total maintenance of the pump, we replace the mechanical parts and dry the motor in a special oven, like you can see in this article:

But this time we detected a extra problem.

In the video we sent to our customer, you can see the winding thread broken all around.

This happens when the pump motor get overheated.

The overheating of an electric motor generally damages the insulation of the winding.

Probably after to dry correctly the motor n the oven, we will have a perfect electrical test but we cannot know if the motor is going to short to ground in a week or in a year.

In Head Pumps if we cannot grant a year of guarantee on our fixing, we always recommend to the customer to buy a new pump so eventually the customer paid our work and decided to buy a new pool pump.
